Study With Me at Wichita State
If you like my content, you’d love studying with me at Wichita State University!
I am the Jazz Studies Area Coordinator at Wichita State, and the head of the guitar studio. Our university is an urban-set research institution whose School of Music boasts an excellent faculty-student ratio and provides one of the best settings I know for learning to play jazz: a small studio inside a full School of Music, in a city with plenty of performance opportunities, which our students take regularly.
The degree is a Bachelor of Music in Performance with a Jazz Studies emphasis. Jazz students have opportunities to play in two big bands, Jazz Arts I and II, in small combos, and in the guitar ensemble. Because the ensembles are open to non-majors, the bands include players from across the university.
The Wichita Jazz Festival brings a guest artist to campus every April, and our jazz students play all their curricular concerts in the heart of downtown Wichita, in a collaboration between Walker’s Jazz Lounge and Somewhere Works.
If you are thinking about it, write to me through the contact page and come sit in on a rehearsal.
